The escapement is the heart of the mechanism that releases the carriage one key press at a time. It is the 50 year old oil that emulsifies and basically gums up the works in particular the escapement. I prefer the term ‘seized’ because this is a more accurate term for what they often are. All straightened and tightened now.Ī note on Facit typewriters: If you search the internet for info on Facit Typewriters you will find references to them often being found ‘frozen’ where the carriage will not move. the bottom left one is shown rotated at 90 degrees (darn it!) but that is because the screw was a bit loose and I didn't notice until I sat down to compile this listing. The feet are not original (see base photo) but they are a fair match. Also a cursive 'f' paired with an equals sign which leads me to believe they are intended for the writing of scientific/engineering formulas. Some unusual characters are included which I think are mainly French accents etc (but no Cedilla). Not a big deal unless you really want to knock out lots of tables on it. It has the usual left and right margin adjustments but nothing for tabs. This particular model does not have tabs, some TP2's do and I can only assume that this was a cost saving option when ordered from new. When fitted with a black/red ribbon, can type in red too at the throw of a small lever on the left of the keyboard.
The ribbon (purple) is not new (but almost) and has plenty of life left in it see typing sample. It is solid and snappy and sounds and feels very good too.

I will include a print from a pdf copy of the user manual. No key (they are small and get nearly always get lost in the mists of time) but the case is unlocked and the clasps just snap open and shut using your thumbs.

Vintage Olympia De Luxe Brown Portable Manual Typewriter w/ Case No Key. The catches have the onset of some surface corrosion but function perfectly. When I say 'used' I am alluding to the paint which has various scratches and scrapes lets call it 'character' shall we? There are no cracks or dents just paint rubbing at the corners and edges - See pics for all the detail. This is all metal and in 'used' condition and fully functioning. They are big and heavy enough to take the hammer and crank out lots of work, but small enough to carry around without putting your back out. Facit typewriters were made in Sweden and are absolutely gorgeous and very well made indeed.
